FAQ

What is “JRHT”?

JRHT are the abbreviations of Judi Ross Holistic Therapy used as shorthand.

What services does JRHT offer?

The primary service offered is individual psychotherapy with a holistic approach integrating ‘off the mat’ yoga practices, and therefore takes place in a regular therapy office setting. An additional service is individual yoga psychotherapy which takes place ‘on the mat’ and is a therapeutic focus integrating more active yoga practices.

What does holistic mean?

“Holistic” is defined by Google as “treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.” Integration of mind, body, and spirit or soul are all connected parts that make up our whole self in an holistic approach. Therefore all parts of ourselves are welcome, included, and explored in holistic psychotherapy with Judi.

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a mental health treatment similar to counseling and psychology. The word “psycho” is added to the term “therapy” to differentiate it from other unrelated types of therapy like massage, physical, occupational.

Psychotherapy with Judi is an in-depth approach to treating mental health problems at their core. Relief ultimately comes from addressing underlying issues like unhelpful belief systems, repetitive negative thoughts and behaviors, difficult interpersonal relationships, family of origin issues, stuck emotions or trauma, and painful fear and shame.

Psychotherapy’s primary purpose is to increase awareness and improve functioning. Additional benefits include improving mood while decreasing hurtful symptoms, improving connections and communication with others, and increasing knowledge and application of effective coping skills to live a sustainably healthy, meaningful life.

What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient mental, physical, and spiritual practice originating from India in approximately 500 BCE. The word “yoga” is Sanskrit for “union” or “to yoke”. Yoga’s definition has come to be known as the union of mind and body.

Though yoga originated from Eastern religions and philosophies, especially including Buddhism and Hinduism, Westernized yoga and more specifically yoga psychotherapy with Judi is intended to be non-secular with no religious affiliation. The spiritual components can be individualized to meet almost anyone’s beliefs.

What is yoga psychotherapy?

Yoga psychotherapy with JRHT is the intentional combination of meditation, mindfulness, breath work, and beginning physical postures of yoga with integrative mental health therapy techniques to further cultivate the mind-body connection, increase awareness and understanding of self, and promote holistic well-being and ease.

These private, integrative session include extensive processing time, a grounding guided meditation, intention setting and mindfulness practices throughout, extensive breath work and physical postures specific to treating the body and mind, and a resting relaxation in silence. Mantra or affirmations, gratitude practices, and relevant inspirational quotes prompting deeper self-inquiry may also be included tailored specifically to your symptoms, goals, needs, and/or preferences.
